Acceptance & Craftsmanship
Two words for 2017: acceptance and craftsmanship.
Last year was about exploration and experimentation in everything. This year I’m committing solely to photography, body and soul. Dramatics aside, I really do mean it. In all the books and interviews I did last year with artists and entreprenuers, I found that the key to creating the best work is through dedication, discipline, knowledge and follow-through. Expertise and talent doesn’t happen overnight. The way to get to serious mastery is through craftsmanship—an understanding of the details, history, technique, details, standards, tradition and community with other craftsman. I want to get to know the ins and outs of photography from a tradition and technique stand point and. I want to become so damn good at my craft so as to know every lever I have to work with and create the image that I saw in my mind. Obsession.
Acceptance: Instead of fighting or complaining for things to be different, what about saying, hey- shit’s happening, and I’m okay with it, so let me choose to leave or make another decision to go forward instead of complaining or crying over spilt milk. Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get, so just let it all go.
Those are my two cents for 2017.
